Why Kintsugi Forum
What makes working with us different — and worth the difference.
These aren't marketing claims. They're the specific ways our approach to strategic advisory departs from what most firms offer — and the reasons clients come back.
Back to HomeCore Advantages
Six things that hold across every engagement
Each of these reflects a decision we've made about how to practice — not a feature added to a service list.
Senior-led throughout
No hand-offs. The advisor you meet is the advisor who does the work — from initial conversation to final document.
Always a written deliverable
Every engagement closes with a document — a memo, critique, or written response — not just a verbal debrief.
Fixed scope, fixed fee
The scope is agreed before work begins. The fee is stated upfront. No billing surprises, no scope creep by default.
Strict confidentiality
NDA before any substantive conversation. Client names and engagement details are never referenced publicly.
Candour as a default
An outside perspective is only useful if it says what hasn't been said. We hold candour as a professional obligation, not an option.
Malaysian market context
We understand the ownership structures, sector dynamics, and governance realities of privately held companies in Malaysia.
In Depth
What each advantage actually means in practice
Expertise that comes from the work, not the credential
The advisors at Kintsugi Forum have spent years inside strategic planning engagements — not as observers, but as the people writing the memo at the end. That means the questions we ask in a workshop aren't drawn from a framework applied uniformly. They're drawn from the pattern recognition that comes from doing this with enough different organisations to know where the interesting tensions usually live.
We're not generalists who can advise on everything. We're specific: strategic direction, annual planning, and the diagnostic work that precedes both. That specificity is a feature, not a limitation.
What this means for your engagement
- Questions calibrated to your specific situation, not a generic framework
- Pattern recognition from comparable Malaysian business contexts
- Clear limits — we'll say when something falls outside our scope
- Senior practitioners, not junior analysts, leading the analytical work
Why this matters
- Documents you can share with a board or return to six months later
- A written record of what was decided and why, not just what was discussed
- Plain language — no jargon that obscures rather than clarifies
- A foundation for the next conversation, whenever that happens
Written deliverables that outlast the conversation
The most common failure in strategic advisory is that the conversation was valuable but nothing durable came out of it. Six weeks later, each person in the room remembers a slightly different version of what was agreed. The memo is the hedge against that.
Every engagement we deliver closes with a written document. For the Direction Workshop, it's a written summary and a one-page direction memo. For the Annual Plan Review, it's a written critique with concrete adjustments. For the Diagnostic, it's a short written response to the key questions the founder raised. These aren't summaries of the conversation — they're considered documents in their own right.
Pricing that's transparent and doesn't shift
The three engagements have published prices: RM 580 for the Direction Diagnostic, RM 1,680 for the Annual Plan Review, RM 2,850 for the Strategic Direction Workshop. These are fixed for the standard scope. There is no retainer structure. There are no add-ons pitched at the close of an engagement.
This pricing is intentionally accessible for the value it represents. A two-day strategic workshop for a senior management team, with a written deliverable and a follow-up call, at RM 2,850 is a considered investment — not a trivial one, but not one that requires a capital committee to approve.

What Sets Us Apart
The specific choices we've made about how to practise
We don't pitch at the close
At the end of an engagement, we deliver what was agreed and we leave. We don't treat the close of an engagement as the beginning of a sales conversation for the next one. If you want to return for another engagement later, you're welcome to — but it won't be because we engineered that outcome.
We start with a diagnostic option
The Direction Diagnostic exists because committing to a two-day workshop before knowing whether the fit is right carries some risk for both parties. The RM 580 diagnostic is designed to reduce that risk — for you and for us. It's a one-week engagement that gives both sides a shared picture before deciding whether to proceed.
Confidentiality is a structural commitment
We don't publish case studies. We don't reference clients in conversations with other clients. We don't use client situations as illustrative material in public forums. The confidentiality framework isn't a policy we follow when convenient — it's a structural part of how we operate.
We work in plain language
Strategic documents should be comprehensible to the people who receive them. We write in plain language — not because we're simplifying, but because clarity is harder and more useful than jargon. A written memo that requires a translator to read isn't a useful document; it's a performance of expertise.
